Paleolithic and Mesolithic Art in Italy

This portal is an archive of the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic Italian art that constitute the visual culture of hunter-gatherers.

Art, just like any other productions and technical knowledge and just like funeral practices, allows us to understand the symbolic system and the everyday life of Prehistoric Man.

The catalogue is organised around the different archaeological sites, the main artistic productions of each of which are illustrated with short descriptions, photos and drawings.

Historical overview

In this section the view of Italian paleo-Mesolithic culture is discussed and placed in a historical setting within the wider European context, even when some events seem to derive from micro/macro regional phenomena.
